SPRINGBOK – PRETORIA
1 198 km
11 hours 47 minutes
This is the only national road on this list that does not connect a coastal town or a border post into a neighbouring country. The N14 starts on the outskirts of our nation’s capital and, ten minutes shy of an hour, it shoots straight into the North West province. It is the biggest and the only national road that runs through the farming towns of Ventersdorp, Coligny and Delareyville. In the North West province, the N14 takes the traveller through many rolling maize farmlands and a spread of salt pans. In these parts, the road is a two-lane single carriageway and the shoulders are hardly paved.
From Upington the N14 goes to Lutzburg where it crosses the Orange River and then makes its final stretch to Springbok.
