PORT ELIZABETH – NAKOP
1 033 km
9 hours 49 minutes

The origins of the N10 can be traced back to a farmstall known as Nanaga on the outskirts of the city of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. It sprouts off the N2, which hugs South Africa’s entire eastern coastline. The N10 is characterised by two different extremes on its opposite ends. In the Eastern Cape, it is a curlicue in the midst of breath-taking green scenery. (See the Tootabi Hunting Safaris just after Paterson) In the Northern cape, the road becomes more elongated and the landscape more barren and brown. In Groblershoop, the N10 encounters the mighty Orange River and together they manoeuvre the southern part of the Northern Province, all the way to Upington. From there to Nakop, it is a long stretch that hardly has bends or curves. On the Namibian side the road becomes the B3.
